What type of magazine is it?
This magazine is based on the subject of music.
From the front cover, what kinds of issues/articles are going to be inside?
By looking at the front cover of this magazine, it is immediately obvious of the topics inside. For example in these magazines, the puffs used on the 'Q'Magazines give the reader the hint that inside the magazine is an interview with Madonna, and a spread about girl power within music. It also entails that there is information about several different music artists.
Who is the target audience for the magazine? What particular age group? What are their interests?
The magazine is targeted for people with an interest in music, possibly late teenagers. The language on the front cover suggests that it is targeted for more of an adult audience.
Look at the central image. What mode of address is the mag using?
The selected mode of address is more casual and informal, as it uses text such as 'Girl Powered' in order to catch attention of a female audience.
What does this tell you about the type of relationship it wants with its reader?
This tells us that they aim to get a good relationship with the audience as they use a casual approach, almost as if they aim to make the reader feel as if they are right in the action.
Who is on the front cover and why?
An image of Madonna is used on the front cover as she is a well known music artist who is idolised within the music industry.
What does the anchorage text say?
There are two particular anchorage texts within this front cover, these being the text about the Madonna Interview, with an image of Madonna in the background. Also, there is a selection of artists names seperated from the background image of this front cover, accompanied by an image of a female artist.
What does this imply about the artist??
This imply's that Madonna is the main focus of this particular magazine. With this large anchorage text, people are influenced to buy the magazine in order to read about this idolised musician.
What overall message is the artist giving?
I think that the message given from the front cover is that Madonna is an idol, and that she can be at that age and still be creating brilliant pieces of music.
Are any groups being represented?
The main representation of groups is groups with interest in music. This front cover portrays towards mainly female musicians as it has a large section with images and information about female artists.
How does the magazine represent them?
The magazine represents the groups as in the sub-section giving the information about these musicians, it gives a sense that the main target audience would be female musicians, slightly giving the impression that female artists are at large recently.
Are there any ‘buzz’ words? What effect does it have on the reader?
The buzz words used in this front cover are simply titles of new bands or musicians in order to catch the readers interest if they like these particular bands. If the target audience notices these Buzz words, they will be tempted to read this Q magazine, Therefore having a large effect on the target audience.
What does design of the title block tell you about the magazine
The title block on this front cover tells me that the Magazine is mainly focused around Madonna and her music.
What does the title of the magazine tell you about:

It tells me that the magazine is simple but effective.
3. its style
The title of the magazine tells me that its style is more casual and aimed to inform. It does not seem formal.
What do the ‘puffs’ suggest will be inside the magazine?
The 'Puffs' suggest that the magazine will include information about several artists, and information on the "Best British Albums", therefore i know it will include information from music charts etc.
What does this tell you about the type of audience the magazine expects to get?
This tells me that the type of audience the magazine is aiming to get is people who enjoy british music, and
Is there a slogan? What does it tell you about the magazine? How does it help to attract readers?
What colours are used? Do you find them attractive?
The background to the front cover is dark, and the colours used in the image are slightly dull, therefore the font colour and individual image colour used is alot brighter in order to stand out from the background. They are attractive to the reader as they are easily noticed.
What fonts are used and why?
Large, bold fonts are used in order to catch the viewers attention.
What strategies does the magazine use to attract the audience?
Several strategies are used, for example the large bright text make it easier for the viewer to spot something on the cover in order to make them want to read it. Also catchy images are placed on the front cover, to make the viewer interested.

For the front page of a college magazine, i think that images of teenagers and school equipment would be appropriate, as they seem relative to school. Preferably bright, eye catching images that are modern in order to get the viewers attention.
